Wooden Planter Boxes

Types of Planter Boxes

Do you do a lot of gardening, but lack the room to really make a large number of actual gardens in the ground? As you well know, you cannot just till up a square of land and plant everything in it.

Some things need to be kept separate, and some things need a lot of space just to grow up! That is why planter boxes are such a good idea. A planter box is a type of wooden, plastic, or even metal box that you put soil into and grow plants in.

It is sort of like a planter jar, except that you might make planter boxes very large. Some of the most popular planter boxes are actually 6 foot squares where you can plant 4 or 5 tomato plants!

Planter boxes can be any size you want them to be, and they can be designed however you want them to be designed. However, what they accomplish will get done either way. For one, they keep your plants up off of the ground and away from most of the bugs and other pests. And second, they keep plants separated from other major plant life, thereby giving them a better chance for survival than if they were in the ground.

Planter boxes can be bought or built, but they are more commonly built for a few reasons. First, they are easy to make with a few simple tools and a measuring tape. In fact, there are plans for them all over the internet and in gardening magazines.

Second, wooden planters are relatively inexpensive to build. And third, they are tough to haul if you do buy them, and can be very expensive to ship if they are made from a material like wood or plastic planters.

Planter boxes do what other types of gardens cannot do; they give your plants an actual better chance of survival. If you are like most people, then you probably want to have a great garden regardless of having a small yard, or living in town, or not having enough room for multiple tilled plots of ground.

If you want a great garden without these things, then planter boxes might be the perfect thing for you. You can even use them if you DO have a huge garden as a place to start new plants. Then, after they have a good foothold and are growing healthily, you can transplant them to a more secure spot in the ground!
